Last year the
Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim was fogged out. (See the photo above taken by Scott Belland who has had his Alcatraz work featured in
Sports Illustrated magazine.) Consequently, we ended up swimming around Aquatic park as a "Plan B" swim and it was quite a fun swim too.
I will be swimming the race in a my new
blueseventy wetsuit and will blog a review as to how it fared
Here is a link to the race site: [

Real men swim without a wetsuit! Have fun. I will be there too, in pair or regular jammers enjoying the 56 degree water!
Yes, real men do swim without the aid of neoprene. Ironic that most of the skins out there are women I think but nonetheless, swimming in 54-degree water from Alcatraz to the mainland is courageous and manly.
Enjoy your swim. Is "enjoy" an appropriate term for such an endeavor?
Well, lucky for you (and who knows if it will last) but the water has warmed up a bit. It's 58 right now.
Here's a link to a weather bouy off Chrissy Field, which is a little west of where we'll be swimming.
