Olympic stadium planned for Beijing 2008

The pixels at the bottom represent foreigners who paid $3500 each in travel, housing, food and tourist expenses.

When it comes to architectural design I think function should supplant form and here we have form supplanting function. This is not to say that aesthetics should never be a consideration in the designing of a structure but rather to say that the "lattice-like" griding here seems over designed and could promote urban decay such as pigeons, erosion from rain et cetera.

If you go to this site, Wired from New York, there are pictures of what this stadium looks like from the inside. In some instances it looks very formidable or has a gravity to it but in other photos is where I feel it is over wrought and looks like a set from the movie Star Wars or THX 1138. [Link]

That's beautiful. Great buildings should inspire as well as fulfill function.

I dunno... that thing looks pretty alien to me. Maybe it's ahead of it's time...
