I like the fact that Alain Bernard has a heart. Here is what he had to say according to News.com.au: "...Bernard - newly crowned European champion in the 50 metres and 100 metres freestyle as well as recording new world records in both events - told French television station TFI that it would be a show of strength by the politicians.

I personally think boycotting the opening ceremonies but remaining to compete would be an ill mannered and rude decision. Rather like a child throwing a fuss over a friend's birthday cake being something other than his own personal preference but still insisting on getting his slice.
alain bernard was for a boycott of the openning ceremonie by the world president not by the athletes.
I think you mean the France's President Sarkozy. As of today at least we still don't have a world president (thank God).
