Watch the replay of Sulivan's 100 LCM freestyle win and note his straight arm recovery

We are seeing a lot of innovation this year in swimming from stroke to speedsuits. I actually have a straight arm recovery as seen above when I sprint and I am working hard to change it since my turnover needs to speed up. It's amazing how these athletes like Sullivan, Nystrand, et al. can make it work.

i have actually read articles that say a straight arm recovery is better for sprints because it creates faster rotation at the hips.

i personally think that everyone is different and should use whichever stroke pattern/style is best for them. we need to go back to the days when science behind stroke mechanics was more important than suit materials (even though i am a fan of the the Speedo Fastskin Lazr).
