The recording-breaking swimmer, who took home eight gold medals at the Bejing Olympics, will host the 34th season premiere of NBC's long-running late-night sketch-comedy series on Sept. 13. Joining the 23-year-old athlete as musical guest will be rapper Lil Wayne.

That is so cool, to bad I can't see it here in europe. Hopefully there will be clips on the internet.

I think Ryan Lochte will be jealous, being a huge Lil Wayne fan.

I think this is tremendous. People are already saying crap like, "he better be funny"... etc. I'm not worried about that part at all. I'm thrilled for Michael to get this kind of attention, and I think he IS going to increase awareness of the sport and hopefully increase the participation levels.

But seriously... a SWIMMER hosting SNL. I mean, sure... it takes Olympic history to make it happen, but MAN... this is just COOL.

Apparently NBC is finding another way to keep its ratings up with Phelps.

I'm looking forward to it!
