In a legal, fully approved, FINA swimsuit, Cesar Cielo, will probably hold the world record title for the 50-meter free for at least another 1/2-century!
Who will dare call him a cheater for wearing a "shiny suit"?
Born in Brazil, trained in Americas; [Plural], Cielo confirmed at the Brazilian Long Course Meters Championship that he is the planet's best 50-meter free swimmer and will be for a very long time.
I am so sorry that the aforementioned statement will hurt Eamon Sullivan, Libby Trickett, Mark Schubert, and Bob Bowman's feelings but that is the way both Arena and Cesar Cielo roll.

SAO PAULO, Brazil, December 18. DURING morning finals today at the Brazil Long Course Championships, Cesar Cielo beat the world record in the men's 50 free.
After clocking a 21.02 during prelims last night to put Fred Bousquet's global standard of 20.94 from April on notice, Cielo clipped the record with a blazing fast time of 20.91. Cielo's best time heading into this meet had been a South American record of 21.08 clocked at the World Championships this summer.
Cielo returned in the men's 400 free relay with a leadoff time of 47.29 as Cielo, Andre Daudt, Fernando Da Silva and Gabriel Mangabeira won the race with a meet-record time of 3:16.30.

Just as a side note: he trains in Auburn with Hawke for six months, and the other six months he trains in Brazil. That's where he's been since Rome, training under the coach he started with, at the same club this championships are being held. So I guess that's another reason for the tabloid guy to be mad at Cesar (he's not even training in America recently, how dare he!).

Watching the Duel in the Pool, I was thinking that I can't be doing with the swimmers who are wearing the 2010 legal suits. It's like 'for god's sake, don't be such stick in the muds, do all you can to win races and break records - wear those when the Swimming Law decrees it must be'.
I myself and disappointed that I most likely won't be able wear a tech suit. I will skip most of the meets because of that.

Don't skip the meets just because a bunch of old farts want to keep swimming in the 70's.
Use what you have learned about your swimming and the feelings you get when wearing a bodysuit(low tech or high tech) and keep racing.
Don't let the old farts drive you out of the sport. Prove to them that it was YOU and not a suit that was doing the fast swimming.
Maybe one day, swimming will have people that are ok with advancement and allow the bodysuits back in.
Skip the meets, Tony. Leave the swimming to the real athletes who do not need performance enhancing devices. Instead, stay at home like the girl's blouse that you are, and ponder what might have been...

Suit or no, that's a blazing swim! You're right, Tony, that mark may stand for 50 years.

Since you can't put your name up, you must not be a real athlete either.
It's easy to insult someone when you can hide.
I noticed those blocks, too.
I'm going to go out on a limb here: I've been reading about the new suits from Speedo, Tyr and blueseventy... Compression, hydrodynamics, etc.
Those suits, combined with the blocks and what we're learning about freestyle spring mechanics and I'm betting that, while we might not see 20.high for while, someone - or someones - will go 21-low this summer. 21.4 or better, I'm betting.
Here comes a comment from a British journalist that was too shy to post:
"Shiny-Shiny, Plastic-Fantastic blocks! No-no-no! They are a device that should be declared a swim aid under FINA article 3456 of the FINA No-Fun Rule!..."
Tony, your comment about the blocks is tawdle. The new blocks have been made available to all, at the same time. And they are uniform. As per the sports rules - yes, rules - the new block design is the same for everyone, all over the world.
It was in quotes, it was satire. I do expect him to create a fuss. However, they may be available to all but I best they cost a fortune.
