Hall of fame swimmer Rowdy Gaines was in Cape Coral this afternoon throwing his weight behind a proposal to build a national swimming center in the city.Gaines – a three-time Olympic gold medalist – and other members of the National Swimming Center Corporation, the nonprofit organization proposing the project, spoke this afternoon to members of the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association during a luncheon at Tarpon Point.
“From a competition standpoint alone this will bring in a lot of revenue,” said Gaines. A swimming school bearing his name could be a part of the $200 million development proposal, which would include a $40 million Olympic caliber swimming arena.

$40 million for the swimming arena out of a budget of $200 million is 20%, not 40%, of the budget. You artist types ... sheesh.
