At age 12, I broke national age group records and, thanks to that same stubborn persistence and determination, won my first national championship at 14 in the 10k open-water event. My Olympic berth came at 16 and now, as a 19-year-old, I am a six-year veteran on the National Team now focusing on the 400m and 800m meter freestyles. In those six years, I have been so blessed to travel along with some of the world's best athletes. I've also seen the world and experienced cultures that most people don't ever get to see.
