Swim coach Todd Sousa sentence to 16-months for sex crimes - Victim once an avid swimmer now depressed and avoids the pool due to the abuse.

I don't have any details about the sentencing only that it is 16-months. (Could he be paroled?)

In California we pay $47,500 a year to house and care for an inmate. So, not only do we have an underage victim who has been "sentenced" for the duration of her depression however long that may last, we Californians have nearly a $70,000 bill to flip for this loser. Economically, I suspect I am only scratching the surface here in regards to consequences. Sousa will be unemployable when he gets out and probably have his rent paid by the state for who knows how long...! You know, I could go on-and-on.

Finally, I suspect parents in Orange County after reading the morning paper may choose to put their child into tennis, golf, or some other sport rather than swimming.
"The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft' interred with their bones..." - William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar.

From the Orange County Register:

"... The girl's mother and stepfather in a victim-impact statement given during Friday's sentencing hearing indicated that their daughter had once been an avid swimmer but now avoids swimming and is depressed, according to the District Attorney's Office release. ..."

i interviewed for a job with this creep. Something wasn't right with him back then. I never took the job. I did work on deck around him at times. He owns(owned) a chain of swim school. Owns the pools, the facility lease, hires all staff... There is nothing that can stop him from managing his swim schools, who oversees this, its not under USAS. The coaching he did was of little financial consequence for him, his school was a $150K+ gig. I bet we have not seen the last off this Sousa. Wouldn't be shocked if he is done with his time in 180days (well, at least that saves the state $35K)

The family will need a lawyer and a detective to pierce his corporate veil. They better get busy. If he is as well set up as you say - he will spare no expense to stay that way.

This guy gamed his victim, he gamed the prosecution, and when it is time to be sued and pay up he won't have more than $5,000 to his name.

I would not be surprised if he games the family once again to hide his income via some shell corporation with a straw man CEO who grants him low interest loans, a corporate car and housing, and plenty of business meals and etc.

Of course his salary will be kept low and when it is time to pay up, Todd Sousa will be "bankrupt."

BTW, USA Swimming has a shell corporation too.

funny you should describe a shell corp in relation to all this. the club he was formally with when he got busted is run in just such a manner. Him and the clubs 'CEO' were two cons dupe'n oysters. But it is 'The OC' and there are so many of these types that no one seems to care. I was surprised they actually bothered catching Sir Sousa. Someone must have set him up.

Corporations, when set up by pros are like super citizens, the get the same rights as a citizen but they have more protections.

The fact that he pleaded guilty so quickly certainly makes me feel that this rat had a hole nearby to hide in.

ASCA/USAS - LOL

Practically the same cartel, huh?

Thank you I needed that. I was blogging off and on rather than regularly for a while and was depressed that I could not effect any positive change in the sport.
