Artist Shepard Fairey who created the Obama poster does an about face and embraces... "The Splash of Truth?"

Actually that is the visage of Guy Fox, the icon of all things anonymous which includes: the Occupy Wall Street movement, The Splash of Truth, and posters to the blog .

In 2012 I will continue to accept anonymous comments since we participate in a sport where people are punished for voicing their opinions.

to wit: I believe Steve Munatones was one of those punished when FINA removed him from open water events for voicing open water safety concerns. Don't believe me? Check this post out: [Link]

If you would like a free "We are the Hope sticker" from noted artist Shepard Fairey go here to StickerRobot: [Link]

The way I see it ------ There is great value to anonymous posts. Colorado cannot possibly know all of the crap that goes on in the 53 LSC's. They only hear what the chosen few want them to hear which is why the LSC's are so thrilled to get their officers and coaches on the boards and committees of USA Swimming. Like others have pointed out, it's almost impossible to get an appointment unless you are kissing the right ass!

Some teams do the same crap, they appoint well-respected coaches in order to mask the corruption!

Tony, Guy Fawkes was hardly anonymous. He was one of the conspirators who formulated the Gunpowder Treason of 1605, which was a plan to blow up the House of Lords on November 5, 1605. The plan was to kill the British Protestant aristocracy, including King James I, and install a Catholic Head of State.

The plot failed and Fawkes was arrested on the night of November 4, 1605, guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder in the sewers under the House of Lords in London.

Ever since, November 4 has been known as Bonfire Night all over England. In tamer circles, it's celebrated with fireworks. In not so tame circles... Well, let's just say it's a little bigger.

That mask owes more to the movie "V" than it does to Guy Fawkes.

I really hate it when Hollywood usurps and twists a piece of real history...

The Guy Fawkes mask, has been co-opted as an icon for a group called anonymous, a "hacktivist" group that started on '4chan'. It originated in Alan Moore's comic book "V for Vendetta" - I know about Guy Fox day, I am probably more British than you even though I was born in America.

:-P

The funny bit is, all of the anti-corporate protesters buying those masks are actually lining the pockets of Warner Brothers, who own the rights to it.

Note how Alan Moore's and David Loyd's name is never mentioned. One of those two drew that mask. I suppose when Warner Bros. bought the rights to all of Alan Moore's stuff, they get the dough.

I know that Moore was so upset with how they rework his stuff he sued Warner Bros and told them from all of his properties.

FYI - Usswimnscandal account has been suspended - what causes a website to get suspended?

Tony Austin said...

There are real and legitimate reasons why sites are suspended. There are also phony and malicious reasons why sites are suspended.

I had this website suspended by Google twice after being accused of being a "spam blog."

Google responded to my emails saying there were going to investigate a complaint; (would not say who), and within 8-hours in each instance I was back up. In both instances the suspension was due to a false accusation.

I am always suspicious when a site is taken down when there is obviously no copyright or trademark infringement

Here is a link to several horror stories of sites being taken down when they should not have.

The Wikileaks site is stil up so I don't don't what or why USSwimcandal is down.
