But I told him, This is me. If I break my ankle right now, this Olympics wasn’t meant to be. I’m going to keep living my life the way I’ve been living my life, and nothing is going to change that even if the Olympics are coming up. ...”

Though I don't agree with the philosophy I do agree with his attitude. After all, when all is said and done, swimming is simply a recreational sport.

Hey if he ever does break his ankle he could always blame some crazy phantom ghost driver for running him over...oh wait...someone tried that excuse already.
If he does ever end up with a broken ankle from skateboarding he could always blame the accident on some phantom crazy driver...oh wait someone tried that already...damn you MONK!
His lack of motivat..er, discipline has HUGE consequences for USA Swimming.

One never knows when/if they are going to get hurt and being careful sometimes makes no difference.
Damn straight! - Confidence, enthusiasm and perspective create so much oxygen when you step up to the blocks and he has all of the above.
