As noted in a comment by Charlie, the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier swim results are up!

Just so Bill Kalmenson has a witness, he came in 8 seconds behind me but they listed him as coming in at 54.00. Also note that Daniel S. stormed it in 43:31. That is FAST! Congratualtions Daniel. [Link]

Thanks for the congratulations Tony.

You're probably going to think I'm nuts, though, when I tell you that I was somewhat disappointed with the swim. I feel like I've worked very hard since last year's Pier-to-Pier, so I had hoped to do much better than last year.

But my post-race analysis can lead me to only one conclusion: I swam about the same this year as I did last. I placed 62nd overall last year; 61st this year. I placed 8th in my age group last year; had I been in the same age group this year, I would have placed...8th again.

I also looked at the times of folks who finished near me this year who also swam last year. I was either in front of them or behind them by almost the same margins in each swim. For instance, a fellow SCAQ swimmer who beat me by 39 seconds last year trounced me by 49 this year.

Not that I'm obsessing about this. No, not at all. Not the least bit....

I know that I should count my blessings, having survived the start and lived to tell the story. Be that as it may, I'm changing my training and racing strategy for next year because if that same person beats me by 59 seconds, I might just have to take up curling.
