Since March, Kate Zeigler, has been the most searched for swimmer on this blog with 1,863 searches but globally it's all about Amanda Beard!

The next swimmer is Amanda Beard followed by Katie Hoff. I then went to Google Trends to see who are the most searched for swimmers globally in 2007 and there were some surprises. Ian Thorpe is more popular than Michael Phelps searches but Amanda Beard is the top search of all with Laure Manaudou a possible second. Laure and Amanda do not make 30-million-a-year like Michael Phelps is rumored to make.

This surprises me greatly. It means that female swimmers are in more demand than their male counterparts but yet the male swimmers seemingly have the biggest contracts. Madison Avenue is usually is quite amoral about the sexes preferring to go with the "unit" that has the most "constituents." In this case it appears to be female swimmers yet Amanda Beard does not make nearly as much as Michael Phelps and Laure Manadou probably makes only 10% of what Phelps makes.

Amanda Beard and Laure Manaudou are being poorly represented in the marketplace. I recommend that they switch to more Hollywood driven representation. These girls should should be selling perfume and high end clothing rather than Red Bull for Beard and Lancel hand bags if you're Manaudou. But what do I know? I was told I was "F-ing clueless" by an Amanda Beard fan with a USC ip address. [Link]

P.S. Come to think of it, when it comes to swimming, I'm told I'm "F-ing clueless" a lot!" 0_o

i think you are unfair with lancel, the compagny may not be louis vuitton or hermes but in france they are considerate as a luxe compagny and they have survived a century. last year laure manaudou was estimated to win 700 000 to a millon euros. this year she scored a private sponsorship of 5 millions euros in five years with the pinault family who owns a lot of compagny like gucci. a lot of laure manaudou sponsorship are ending next year, if she wins one or more medals at the olympics next year she will became a absolut sport icon in france.that would increase her value in france where she is as popular or more than zidane. This week there was a six page article on her in the ELLE magazine .

I apologize Maly. Any French luxury item is going to be wonderful. French design has been a favorite of mine for a very long time. As you know I really respect Laure Manaudou's talent and I follow her quite closely but the Lancel ads seem beneath her.

Michael Phelps makes about 20-million-Euros a year. I think Laure should too.

Lancel signed laure when she was not as popular than she is now. maybe the pinault family are waiting for the contract to finish before making laure do ad for their luxe compagnies like louis vuiton, gucci etc.
i agree with you that the ladies should be making more.

Tony you have no idea what you are talking about. Phelps making $30 mil a year is so beyond fantasy. In fact, Amanda makes more than Phelps. In the next 90 days, keep your eyes open for a who lot of Amanda news...... TV commercials, print ads, global ad campaigns, we all love blogs, but try to be at least somewhat accurate. YOu are forgiven, you just dont know...

When I wake up in the morning and I see the word 'anonymous comment' in my mail box, I go, "uh oh! what did I say now." ;-)

Here is refference albeit weak, it is where I formulated my number: "...The Michael Phelps eight-medal performance will guarantee him an annual income into the seven figures through 2009. His sponsor deals with Argent Mortgage, Visa, PowerBar and AT&T Wireless remain significant, even though the $50 million-eight gold expectation will not be realized..."

I don't think $30m is an unreasonable figure for Phelps to be making. He is arguably the biggest star ever to hit swimming. Even people not into swimming at all have heard of him. He is also massive in Asia and you should not underestimate how much sports stars can earn by being popular in places like Japan.
