I understand that the Elena Votsi frontside design, new for the 2004 Athens Games, will be the standard design for the foreseeable future. Up to 2000 the mandated design was Giuseppe Cassioli's. Interestingly the Winter Olympics don't have any similiar limitations to its medals, which are left entirely to the host country. I'm a man of tradition myself, but there are obviously those artistic types who prefer having a totally unique medal each Games. I suppose Tony you're one of them?
