'Michael Phelps on Saturday Night Live': There was a time when 'SNL' was actually funny!

Parodies on YouTube of Phelps being a "bad sport", or a kid recreating the Phelps Speedo commercial are so much better than what we're seeing as I write this. I am astonished at the how poor the writing has gotten on SNL! It's like watching a kids' comdey show on Nickelodeon!

Man, true dat. I guess it's still on just for the sheer novelty.

I was struck by the same thing. I stayed up to watch it, a little apprehensive that Phelps was going to embarrass himself (and us). He didn't, but the SNL sketches were just incredibly lame.

I have to agree. The material wasn't that funny. The Michael Phelps diet skit at the end was probably the best.

I am glad you said that. SNL really is not funny at all these days. I am also not a fan of Tina Fey.

There were so many farcical avenues they could have taken to make it funny and they failed.

Perhaps Michael Phelps tying an anchor, or a World War II sea-mine to Cavic's ankles, A spin-off of "The Onion" Sea World thing such as Phelps having to be submerged in a tank of water every 15 minutes during the show so he doesn't dry up like a fish out of water, and I am not even funny and my ideas are better than that Mormon game show and swim locker room skit..

Baltimore is eagerly anticipating Phelps’ return home. Two separate events are planned for October 4th. One in his hometown of Towson, MD and then a big celebration, including other MD Olympic athletes, down at Fort McHenry. For details go to www.baltimore.org/phelps.
