It turns out that a reader named Tom really pissed off Craig Lord to no end during an email exchange. So, Craig Lord has obviously decided to "show him" and let him have it at the SwimNews.com site. Now, thousands have witnessed Craig Lord's wrath upon a SCAQ Blog reader named Tom.
Here is what Tom wrote in an email to me:
As just mentioned in my previous e-mail, Craig Lord sighted me in an article for the "Times [online]" and SwimNews.com.
All I did was send him a letter to the editor e-mail...........ouch!
[...]
For five paragraphs Tom got flogged! I can't post all of the paragraphs since I won't violate the fair use clause but I will link to it so you can see how strong his words were: "...
"... Odd then, that some still think the suit issue is not worth a second glance. Take "Tom", a reader who tells me it's time to stop flogging a dead horse. Tom has another explanation for all that speed in your suit (and I quote): "HGH, Insulin Growth factor, CERA, Epogen, Micro-dosing, Test-E, Di-Hydromethylandrosterone (the clear)". ..."
[...]
"...There you go Tom - happy now? Perhaps not. Tom goes on to call into question my genetic make-up and cerebral function. I feel somewhat less moved by that than I suspect many of you will doubtless feel about having all that hard work and commitment - you know, all that stuff that had nothing to do with a suit - put down to the cookies in the jar described by Tom. ..."He mentioned Tom's name ten-times during the article. You could just feel his abject anger towards Tom and his speedsuit opinions... But why?
"... And on that note, I'm taking the week off. Hope all those not on Tom's
cocktail have a good one and hope it is a particularly enlightening
one for a scientist called Prof Jan-Anders Manson. ..."

Great so after my personal ban on reading any of Craig Lords anti-tech suit rants you went again and made me. Damn!
Craig Lord is like the crazy old man down the street that keeps your baseball when it goes over his fence. I stopped reading his beating the dead horse articles months ago.
Wow... writing an entire article to try to publicly humiliate a random emailer. Tom should feel totally empowered. Really got under his skin.
Greetings and Salutations All!!!!!!!
I am .........."Tom", Yes Glenn I actually grew a bit taller on being publicly called to task by Mr Lord over just an e-mail to the page (swimnews@Swimnews.com).
I have gone from 6-2, 185 to 6-3 186........oops, I am wearing 'heels, oh, NEVERMIND!
It is fun..........Craig is a great 'Journo, married to a former young-GDR girl. He has his priorities, and his conflicts of interest. Read his suit articles from Feb 2008 until now................He is paid by Arena, or he just really, really LIKES them!
I am back to swimming 50/100/200 freestyles as a 46yo Master and striving to remain top 10 HIM and IM for my age bracket in triathlon (that other sport:)
I want to return to jammers and no-zip backs BTW, but until then, I am 2-3 suits and PEDS purchasable within a Safeway or Costco.
Cheers
Tom

Tom, I suggest you respect the one suit rule and don't take peds. It's just a blue ribbon.
That is to say, those PEDs that are over the counter
Forgive this rather atonal comment from the consistent melody your readers have been singing - but shouldn't you have asked Tom why Craig Lord referred to an email of Tom's in one of his articles? From Mr. Lord's words it seems Tom may have inferred it was performance enhancing drugs rather than the suits which were responsible for all the world records. Surely most of us here would consider a blanket accusation every world record holder is guilty of drug use is way out of line, but your readers don't even mention this. Disappointing to say the least. And let's not forget his quote of "to call into question my genetic make-up and cerebral function". It sounds like Tom became rather personal in his email. So how about it Tony? Can you print the email in question so we can judge for ourselves whether it was Tom's support for the suits or something else which Lord found so offensive?
Judging solely on Tom's troll-like, thinly veiled and unsupported accusation that Lord is a paid supporter of Arena suits and what I know of Craig Lord's character I'm going to be siding with Lord until Tom can prove otherwise.
P.S. I don't know why you think the suit issue is a dead horse, Joel, when the legality of the new suits is under review but they continue to be allowed by FINA. For those like myself who are convinced they are illegal (manufacturer's protests to the contrary) this is an incredibly disappointing decision. The problem is this supposedly dead horse is still shitting in our pool and we want it out - the sooner the better!
I agree alot with Mr. Lord. The
issue with the suits is real, and
so sad for the sport. There once was a time when swimmers swam, and
the frist thing out of our mouths was not what are they swimming in!
I don't know when this will all be over but it looks not for a while. Mr. Lord I think you do a great service to the swim comunity, the
acticle on the dutch ban on jaked suits was really great!! Thank you for stepping out of the box, and bringing us with you.

I think your opinion is fine
consider though though that track and field adopted rubber tracks, rubber shoes, nylon shoes etc. Tennis adapted to the carbon fiber racket and football added face masks and bigger pads and helmets.
I think swimming should evolve like those sports did.
I read this blog by a tony
, what a bitter no talent.
I guess this is what happens to old farts that never achieve great
potential. They criticize other
people because they are so unhappy
with there own life. Mr. Lord has
by far more experience and knownledge of the sport of swimming
then this tool.
Anonymous: You know what? I would agree. Craig Lord has more experience and knowledge of the sport of swimming than I do.
