SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS: The German Water Polo Team

The most kinetic and yet the most "polite" underwater shot I have seen of a water polo skirmish.

From Don'tPanicOnline:

Rasmuss Kaessmann: Kaessmann's work with the German water polo team displays a new and exciting approach to sports photography, creating magic in the pool.

What's amazing is the splash above water, yet the calm underwater. Those bubbles had to go somewhere.

Very astute observation. Also note that th person throwing the ball is apparently standing on an invisible floor.

Another oddity is that the focus of the action above the water versus the focal depth below the water is equal. If the lens was indeed at the water line shooting both on top and beneath he surface, the action underneath the water would have been magnified:

I'm not caring so much about the bubbles...
This is a gorgeous shot of some magnificent looking athletes!
