New 'SCAQ BLOG' Masthead: Cool or Lame?

There is an old saying that "The cobbler's son has no shoes!" - it means that people who work in a certain business like "making shoes" are so busy making shoes, that they don't make any shoes for themselves or even their own family. Sort of like the swim coach that does not swim.

So, I decided that since I do this sort of stuff for a living, perhaps my blog should have a masthead instead of dry text. Personally I am not sold on this masthead but I want to do a masthead that features a SCAQ swimmer who competes in the masthead area about once a month.

Should I use variations of this one which I would update weekly or go back to the text description?

Your call, it's your blog!

I dig it Tony! I dig the idea of rotating the image occasionally.

I have the same problem on my site, I need to sexy it up a little bit... it keeps falling in the "next week" bin...

Totally cool! Can you give us some tips on how (software, etc.) you designed it?

thank you - :-)

I used Photoshop.

Layer One: (Cut out of me diving - "Saturation" set to "0" so it looks black and white. mild drop shadow added

Layer Two: Black graphic with white splatters fills up the whole window - layer set to "Screen")

beneath that

Layer Three: SCAQ BLOG (Font "Impact" with a teal green color) - I stretched it to make it fit. It's not very professional but I was in a hurry. Layer set to "Normal"

I love it, too!

I desperately need to make one for myself as well, but I've got the same issue you mentioned (I'm a web developer by day, so I don't really love the idea of doing this stuff on my own time as well). Maybe someday. :)

The picture in your banner is awesome, btw. I really like it.
