The money is on Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics!

I am still rooting for Tokyo... From the BettingPress:

"... Brazilian city all the rage with punters to get vote to stage summer Games ..."

[...]

Ladbrokes spokesman Robin Hutchison said: "Rio is the only city punters want to back and we've had to cut the odds on the Games going to Brazil to 6/4.

Not gonna lie, when I heard which cities were up for hosting the 2016 Olympics my first thought was, "Rio! Cool! I'd totally go to that one!" And I live near Chicago too (Not that it wouldn't be cool to have it so near, but Chicago just seems a little bit...boring, to be honest).

Rio would be an interesting choice... Be a real confirmation of the ascendancy of the BRIC (Brazil - Russia - India - China) economies... Curious to see if they could pull it off though. Place is nuts corrupt, especially in the construction industry.

Picture this; (literally), find a photo of the Sao Paulo skyline 30-years ago and compare it to the present.

Do the same for Dubai, Shanghai, and even Tokyo. Then do the same to the Los Angeles, New York Chicago and ask yourself, do we really deserve the Olympics?.

Oh, but Chicago will build a temporary pool! What was I thinking?

From a swimming perspective Brazil isn't doing so hot this week. They had to cancel a World Cup stop there because they didn't have the money for it. (story link)

I'd like to see the Olympics in Chicago just because it could be good for American swimming. We've got some really good momentum right now, but I'm sure by the time 2016 comes around it's going to need a shot in the arm.

Chicago isn't out of it yet as those in the know consider it to be neck-and-neck between Rio de Janeiro and Chicago, especially with President Obama and the First Lady heading off today to campaign on behalf of Chicago's bid. On the other hand there's been vociferous opposition to the bid coming from Chicago citizen groups representing the 82% of the residents who are against hosting the Games (for more read the article"Obama's Olympic Error")

We don't deserve it - We are involved in two wars, one of which we started on purpose, and Chicago wants to do it on the cheap!

A lot of moany brits are complaining about how expensive London 2012 will be, so I think people being against hosting an olympics is probably par for the course!
