Yep, the 2010 speedsuits are coming and note that nobody is smiling in this TYR ensemble ad!

This is the most poignant ad I have seen for a 2010 swimsuit line from any company yet. I just got it in the mail.

The Speedo "Flipturns" campaign is "product suicide" as far as I am concerned.

that is funny! good spot.

is it just me or are those suit designs (the colouring) not very attractive. guess psychedelic patterns are in fashion.

I kind of liked the menacing look of the full speedsuits - like they were robots from another world and were going to destroy each other.

Ha! That's awesome... they are all pretty dejected looking aren't they? Half of them are looking at their legs all pissed off about having to shave them again :)

I betcha Ed Hardy/Christian Audinger does a suit with skulls and tattoos on it.

Weren't people talking about the '60s "Hawaiian floral" print coming back? There will never be a better time to capitalize on nostalgia!

And none of these prints that TYR or Speedo are offering are going to be well received.

The thinking was that last years models were black and formal, hence, "let's do the opposite."

Look at the kids in high school versus the middle age fat guy wearing with a shaved head wearing an "Ed Hardy/Chritian Audingier tee-shirt.

Look at the young adults in college wearing browns and grays with medieval ornaments, calligraphy, skulls and angel wings.

Bright exuberant colors are for old people and children.

The next two years will not be about color in fashion. Color is only trendy during boon years like the late 90's or the Paris Hilton era.

In depressions or recessions it amazing how admired black, brown and gray are. round angle are shunned too. Cars become more boxy, hence, the New Beetle is "outre" and 2010 brings us the Mini Cooper, and new Lincoln

If I was designing a woman's swimsuit for 2010, I would design it like a "bowling shirt" so as to make the woman look thinner and faster. (I kid you not)I would also use warm pastels.

The TYR ads are often dour and boring. Speedo, at least in terms of prints, seems to have it right, though. Granted, their prints aren't quite as fun as Nike's (who also make the most comfortable suits I've ever worn), but for high-school and college swimmers, bright colors are very much still in. I get bored of plain black suits very quickly, and based on the suits the suits my Masters team wears, I would say that many other swimmers feel the same way.

Hey Tony:

As I said in an earlier post right after they changed the rule.

"They have now turned our sport back into a fashion show!"

AND...

Scott - The floral design you are referring to was called "Jungle Print".

From speedsuits to Jungle Print...now that's progress!

Reiko, you seem to really like color. I looked at onr of the blogs you follow, fresco phyrra, and it was an explosion of light.

LOL, anonymous! Jungle print, or back to the 10,000 BC

Jungle Print! That's right! Now I remember. And for those who aren't into flowers Speedo is going to offer "LZR Replica" - fabric suits which look like LZR Racers.

P.S. I see that Speedo is still offering LZR Racers for sale. It would be interesting to see who in the general public would buy a temporary swimsuit but that info is probably worth money.

Like FINA does not have the potential to flip-flop again. You just wait! THey will see those mopey TYR swimmers wearing "jungle prints" and realize, "Ye Godz, we just remove a bunch a money out our pockets."

These are training suits, not competition suits. I imagine tech suits will be identical to pre-2008 suits. No decorative prints to allow for country colours and blank spaces for sponsorship logos.

Steve, the post was ab attempt at satire.

Maybe they've used fashion models instead of swimmers in the photo? Models always have a p***ed-off expression on their faces. "I might be paid $300 per hour to wear this crap on the runway, but I don't have to pretend to like it."
I have seen a skull patterned swimsuit somewhere - perhaps on the Splish site.

well as a later 30's masters swimmer and sometimes triathlete I think these suits say "I'm fast but still like to have fun" and what better statement to make when you are almost 40?

Lots of us fashion-rejects out here in Maine are pretty into these suits and the fun stuff Splish has out too....Black gets kind of boring even if you are fast.
